A few of the many reasons to be a full member of CFAC
Did you know that when you were hired as an adjunct faculty member you were brought onboard as a "fee payer" with the union? In Illinois, you must opt-in to union membership to gain access to the full array of benefits. If you aren't sure that you have done so, reach out to us at info@pfac.org and we will send you the opt-in form!
A few of the many reasons to be a full member of CFAC:
• Access to member only meetings where current information is shared.
• Access to member only surveys which influence bargaining.
• Right to vote on job actions & contract ratifications.
• Ability to join committees in areas that are important to you.
• Ability to run or vote for offices.
• Access to member-only perks through IFT/AFT

Some wins:
• Pay raises in our most recent contract. Newer members start pay would have been 72% less than the current rate! For new hires, the increase is $2,000 per 3 credit hour course!
• Automatic compensation for department meetings
• Many safety protocols through the pandemic, including the right to choose the teaching modality of your courses when the college resumed in-person classes.
• We secured the right to bargain on protections to your intellectual property, which the college would have already claimed ownership of!
• We negotiated the Part-time Faculty Development Grant which can award a minimum of 60 grants of up to $2,500 to adjunct faculty members each semester.

Considerations:
• The difference in dues is a tenth of 1%! Members pay 2.5% of earnings while fee payers pay 2.4%. The difference is minuscule to each member but with everyone chipping in, it adds up to support the union.
• Members support the union that is working on your behalf every day!
• Opting-in shows the administration that we are UNIFIED. This makes the Steering Committee's position stronger when bargaining on your behalf!
