CFAC Supports Chicago Teachers Union and SEIU Local 73

October 17, 2019

We proudly stand with our sisters and brothers

at the Chicago Teachers Union and SEIU Local 73

Dear CFAC member,

Chicago Teachers Union and SEIU Local 73 will be on strike today, October 17, 2019

Today our brothers and sisters at CTU and SEU are on strike. Your Union leadership has been in meetings with union organizers across the city and in support. We are ready.

A harm to one is a harm to all

When CFAC went on strike or held rally’s our allies came in large numbers to support us. CTU President, Jesse Sharkey was at all our events along with many others union leaders, community organizations and faith-based communities. Robert Bloch, CFAC attorney represents CTU at their bargaining table. Our Union allies came out in support. It is now our turn to support them. We are asking everyone to attend the rally today. Get informed. There are many ways to help.

“We proudly stand with our sisters and brothers at the Chicago Teachers Union and SEIU Local 73 as they fight for equity and justice for themselves, their students and a Chicago that works for all of us. Mayor Lightfoot has an opportunity to prioritize parks and public education by putting class size caps and proper staffing of school librarians, nurses, social workers, clinicians and counselors as well as fair pay and benefits for workers in writing. Today, we are red and purple.”

There are many ways we as a union can help. Below are some links to some local schools you can stop by and support your teachers and students. Some of our Pt Faculty teach at CPS and many of our students attended Chicago Public Schools. Our parent union IFT/AFT represents Chicago Teachers Union (CTU). As always, no teacher wants to go on strike. But our educators are fighting for the civil rights of our children and bargaining for the common good for our working-class families—including what our school communities need to create the schools Chicago’s students deserve.

Day 1 rally at 1:30pm
